Hurricane Fiona
All staff are safe. Our station manager was able to make it to the farm this morning, Monday, September 19th. Access to the farm is limited due to the heavy rains, continuing rain, and standing water. But from the road we are not seeing major losses. The buildings and equipment are okay with some damage to a small screenhouse used for transplants.
No washouts were observed. However, winds were clocked at 80 mph. A 103 mph gust was recorded in nearby Ponce. Much of our losses after Maria, a category 5 hurricane in 2017, were due to shifting winds that twisted, flattened and snapped off plants. It may be Wednesday before we can have access to the fields and can have a closer look. We will provide more updates as they become available. We currently are without power and voice communications are limited. Customers should have received an email or an e-update. (9/19/2022)
