Sunflower
Commercial Growout
Sunflower entries are priced at $420 and
consist of 2500 seeds planted in 50 rows
of 28 each. Seed is to be customer packaged
and envelopes will be provided upon request. This
quantity is to ensure that there are at least
2000 plants to examine when it is time to read
as we have run into seed lots with poor germination.
This sample size is in line with industry requests
and is read for fertility, outcrosses, branching
types, wild, purple and other characteristics
as may be required. Results of these observations
are forwarded to the customer along with a stand
count. There is a 5 entry minimum charge.
Certification Growout
This is priced at $110 per entry, which
consists of 400 seeds planted in 8 rows
of 50 seeds each. Samples are customer packaged
and envelopes can be provided. This is a smaller
spot check sample required for certification purposes.
The information provided back to the customer
is the same as for the larger sample listed above.
There is a 10 entry minimum charge.

ICIA recommends use of safener(s) and requires
notification.
Phytosanitary certificates for inbound shipments
of sorghum must state the seed treatment(s) and
rate(s). Puerto Rico Department of Agriculture
(PRDA) requires the seed be treated with a fungicide
that is effective against sorghum ergot. Thiram
and Captan have both been acceptable to date by
PRDA.
The acceptance of sorghum shipped from Puerto
Rico varies from state to state. It is the customer's
responsibility to verify a state's acceptance
of untreated sorghum before shipment.
Broomcorn
Pricing and services for increases and nurseries
are the same as for sorghum. However, greater
isolation distances will be required if sorghum
is also present on our farm. Please contact us
if you need more information on broomcorn.
