Shipping to Puerto Rico
from U.S.
All seed is required to have a valid USDA or state
Department of Agriculture phytosanitary certificate.
This is a Puerto Rico Department of Agriculture
requirement for import; seed will not be allowed
into Puerto Rico without a phytosanitary certificate.
You can ship direct to the island (we recommend
Federal Express) if you have the required paperwork
(check with your state Department of Agriculture),
or you can send seed to our Champaign office and
we will obtain the paperwork and ship for you.
If ICIA ships your seed, we will charge for the
phytosanitary inspection, the shipping plus 20%
of the freight charge for handling and any repacking.
Please note that our growout pricing includes
the phytosanitary certificate plus handling and
shipping charges because all growout samples
are to be sent through our Champaign office for
set up. Please contact Hannah Hudson, Operations
Manager, at 217.359.4053 if you have any shipping
questions.
A completed GMO Declaration Form is required
for all corn, cotton and soybean seed to
be shipped to our Puerto Rico farm. This applies
to non-GMO, non-regulated material
and regulated material.
Shipping from Puerto Rico
We most often use FedEx to ship both to the US
and internationally because they have been very
reliable and we have a deep discount rate. In
addition, Fed Ex can ship both small packages
and heavy lift (over 150#) airfreight door to
door. Our current rates are generally running
67 to 73 cents per pound for 2 to 3 day delivery.
If you are really in a hurry, we can ship overnight,
but this service is priced accordingly. There
are some other options at times depending on destination,
but these may involve customer airport pick up
and delivery. An additional option for very large
US shipments (over 10,000# or large volume) is
ocean freight to Florida and trucking to the final
destination. This usually involves about 10 days
of sea and truck transit to the Midwest. Ocean
freight is the most cost-effective shipping for
large weights and/or volumes if time is not a
factor and the commodity can survive the transit
(heat and humidity) period in good condition.
Please check with our office for current rates.
Handling charges
Fees will be assessed for all shipments made by
ICIA covering the packaging, loading and sealing
of shipping boxes, airfreight containers and sea/land
containers.
