Field Services

The field services department is responsible for infield and onsite services for Illinois Crop Improvement’s various authentication and certification programs. The department also provides genetic trait testing as a stand alone service or in conjunction with the Illinois Crop Improvement Seed Lab and Identity Preserved Grain Lab.

  • Phytosanitary Inspections - accredited by the National Seed Health System
  • Purity, isolation and pollen control inspections for Certification, Quality Assurance, Identity Preserved or custom field inspection programs
  • Wildland collected native seed inspections 
  • Weed-seed free forage and mulch inspections
  • On-farm assessments of compliance for Insect Resistance Management
  • Intellectual property rights, trait stewardship and third party research and assessments
The full time field services staff includes a Certified Genetic Technologist to ensure that trait testing is being performed by trained and qualified individuals. Doug Miller, Seed Technology Manager assists the department as a Registered Genetic Technologist and Plant Pathologist (MS Kansas State University). The department participates in public and private proficiency tests and serves as a beta site for trait test providers.

Technician

Illinois Crop has a full time Certified Genetic Technologist (CGT), a full time technician and a part time staff of 35 to 40 field inspectors. Field inspectors are responsible for inspecting, auditing or performing client specified services. Multi-state programs are also coordinated through the field services department.
